4 Assistant Professor posts in Law. Online applications close 7 September 2026.
Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla has notified 26 Assistant Professor posts in Teaching Category 'A' under Advertisement No. Rectt.-30/2026. Four of them are in Law. Pay is Academic Level-10, Rs. 57,700 – Rs. 1,82,400. Applications are online at recruitment.hpushimla.in.
Two things about this recruitment are easy to get wrong, and both can cost you the post rather than merely the marks. They are set out first.
Two Things to Get Right Before Anything Else
1. There are FOUR law posts, not two. They are listed in two separate rows.
The department-wise table splits the law vacancies across two entries — Law (PG Centre, Shimla): 2 and Law (Regional Centre, Dharamshala): 2 — and they sit several rows apart, separated by Commerce, Physics, Chemistry, Life Long Learning, Geography and Sanskrit. A candidate scanning the table for "Law" sees one row, reads "2", and moves on. The correct figure is 4 posts out of 26 — 15.4% of the entire recruitment. Law is, after Chemistry and Sanskrit, among the largest single subject allocations in this advertisement.
2. Submitting online does not complete your application. There is a second deadline.
The online form closes on 7 September 2026 at 11:59 p.m. But a printed hard copy, with supporting documents, must physically reach HPU by 22 September 2026 at 5:00 p.m. These are two distinct deadlines fifteen days apart, and the advertisement states that applications received after the due date will not be accepted. An online submission with no hard copy is not an application. If you are posting from outside Himachal, build in courier time — the requirement is that the hard copy reaches the University, not that you dispatch it.

Vacancy Break-Up — All 26 Posts
| Department | Posts |

Law: 4 posts across two campuses. The two centres are roughly 250 km apart, so treat Shimla and Dharamshala as genuinely different postings when you decide what to apply for — not as interchangeable entries on one form.

Eligibility
Candidates must possess the qualifications, eligibility and experience prescribed under the UGC Regulations, 2018 — and, for the UIT posts, the AICTE Regulations, 2019. NET / SLET / SET or Ph.D. applies as per UGC norms.
What "as per UGC Regulations 2018" means for a law candidate.
The advertisement does not restate the qualification in full; it incorporates the UGC Regulations by reference. For Assistant Professor in Law, that ordinarily means a Master's degree in Law with at least 55% marks (with the usual relaxation for reserved categories), plus NET / SLET / SET — unless you are exempt because you hold a Ph.D. awarded in accordance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations. The percentage and the NET requirement are where most applications fail, and neither is negotiable at the screening stage. Read the Regulations themselves rather than a summary, and check the exact wording in the official advertisement before you pay the fee.
Application Fee
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General | Rs. 2,000 |
| EWS / SC / ST / OBC / BPL (H.P.) | Rs. 1,000 |
| Ex-Servicemen (H.P.) | Nil |
Payment is online by debit card, credit card, UPI or internet banking. At Rs. 2,000 for General candidates this is a relatively expensive application — nearly three times the OPSC prosecutor fee — and there is no indication of a refund. Confirm your eligibility under the UGC Regulations before paying, not after.
Reservation applies only to Himachal Pradesh candidates.
The advertisement states that reservation benefits are available only to eligible Himachal Pradesh candidates as per Government rules. If you hold an SC, ST, OBC or EWS certificate from another State, you should expect to be treated as General for reservation purposes here — which affects both your fee and, more importantly, the category you compete in. This is standard for State university recruitment and routinely missed by candidates applying from outside the State.
Selection Process
- Screening of applications
- Academic score evaluation
- Interview
- Document verification
Minimum qualifying marks in the interview: 50% for General, 45% for reserved categories.
There is no written examination. That changes what you should be doing with the next 17 days.
Selection turns on academic score plus interview — there is no paper to study for. Your academic score is already fixed by your degrees, NET, Ph.D., publications and teaching experience; nothing you do this month will change it. What you can still change is how completely you document it. Marks are awarded against evidence, and an unproven publication or an uncertified year of teaching scores zero just as surely as one that does not exist. Spend the time assembling proof — journal ISSN details, experience certificates, NET scorecard, Ph.D. notification — rather than preparing for an examination that is not going to be held.
How to Apply
- Step 1. Go to the official recruitment portal at recruitment.hpushimla.in.
- Step 2. Register with a valid email ID and mobile number. Preserve your User ID and password — the advertisement makes this a specific instruction.
- Step 3. Fill the online form and upload the required documents.
- Step 4. Pay the fee online and submit, on or before 7 September 2026, 11:59 p.m.
- Step 5. Download and print the completed form.
- Step 6. Send the printed form with all supporting documents so that it reaches HPU by 22 September 2026, 5:00 p.m.
Documents required: passport-size photograph, signature, educational certificates, experience certificates (if any), category certificate, EWS certificate (if applicable), NET / SLET / SET or Ph.D. documents, and identity proof.
Should You Apply?
Apply if you hold an LL.M. at the required percentage with NET / SLET / SET or a qualifying Ph.D., and want a regular university teaching post at Academic Level-10. Four law vacancies in a single university advertisement is a substantial opening — law faculty posts in State universities are usually notified one or two at a time, and often not for years together.
Think carefully if you are applying from outside Himachal Pradesh and were relying on reserved-category status, or if your NET or Ph.D. position is uncertain. At Rs. 2,000 with no refund, the cost of a misjudged application is real.
