The High Court of Uttarakhand at Nainital has invited online applications for the engagement of Law Researchers on a purely contractual basis, offering a fixed monthly honorarium of ₹50,000. Applications are accepted only through the prescribed Google Form, and the last date to apply is 3 August 2026. The engagement is governed by the “Scheme for Engagement of Law Researchers in the High Court of Uttarakhand” and was notified vide Advertisement No. 295/UHC/Admin.B/XVI-56/2026 dated 23 July 2026, issued by order of Hon’ble the Chief Justice through the Registrar General. Who is eligible?
The eligibility criteria under the Scheme are as follows:
- Educational qualification: The candidate should be a graduate in law from a duly recognised law school, college, university or institute established by law in India, and eligible for enrolment as an Advocate with the Bar Council of India.
- Final-year students: Candidates in the final year of a three-year or five-year law degree are also eligible to apply, subject to furnishing proof of acquiring the law qualification at the time of interview or before taking up the engagement.
- Computer knowledge: The candidate must have a good working knowledge of computers.
- Age: The candidate should not be more than 30 years of age as on the date of making the application. This may, in appropriate cases, be relaxed by Hon’ble the Chief Justice on the request of the Hon’ble Judge concerned.
- Nationality: The candidate must be a citizen of India.
Disqualifications to keep in mind
A candidate will not be considered eligible if, on the date of joining, he or she:
- is engaged or appointed elsewhere on an honorarium or payment basis;
- has been involved in any criminal case — whether pending or convicted — for an offence involving moral turpitude; or
- is facing any disciplinary proceeding before the Bar Council of India, the concerned State Bar Council, or any other authority.
Remuneration
Every Law Researcher is paid a fixed monthly honorarium of ₹50,000, or such honorarium as may be revised from time to time. Importantly, no other allowance or perks are admissible over and above this honorarium.
Term and nature of engagement
The role is offered on a purely short-term contractual basis and does not create any right to regular appointment. Key features of the tenure are:
- The engagement is determined by the Hon’ble Judge concerned and is extendable up to three years, or until the retirement or cessation of office of that Judge, whichever is earlier.
- In exceptional circumstances, the term may be extended up to four years, subject to satisfactory performance.
- The contractual engagement confers no right or claim to regular appointment or to continuance beyond the actual period of engagement.
- A Law Researcher may be prematurely discharged without notice. A Researcher who wishes to leave early must give at least one month’s prior written notice through the Private Secretary of the Hon’ble Judge.
Selection process
Selection is made on the basis of an assessment as prescribed by the Hon’ble Judge concerned. Only shortlisted candidates are called for the assessment as per the Scheme. The Hon’ble Judge may, at his or her discretion, decide whether or not to call any applicant for interview, and the final selection is made by the Hon’ble Judge to whom the Law Researcher is to be attached. No TA/DA is paid to applicants for appearing in the interview.
Before joining, the selected candidate must sign an Undertaking/Declaration as prescribed in Schedule–II of the Scheme.

How to apply
Candidates must apply online only through the prescribed Google Form. No application in any other mode will be entertained. Follow these steps:
