Number of Posts
Fifty posts of Assistant Public Prosecutor on contractual basis have been proposed. It has, however, been made clear in the advertisement that the number of vacancies may be increased or decreased as the situation warrants. No vested right is therefore created merely by the notified figure.

Selection Criteria
Selection is to be made on the basis of performance in the interview. Candidates approximately three times the number of vacancies are to be called for interview, and where the applications exceed that number, short-listing is to be done on the following objective criteria.
- Qualification in the requisite field — such as LLM or PhD in Law.
- Working experience.
- Actual legal practice on the criminal side — to be supported by participation reflected in judgments or order sheets of the Hon'ble Supreme Court, High Court or subordinate courts, wherein the candidate has appeared and his attendance is categorically marked by name in a criminal matter. A maximum of five certified copies may be attached.

Nature of Duties
The work normally assigned to an Assistant Public Prosecutor is to be discharged by the selected candidates, which includes the following.
- Appearing in the courts of CJM, JMFC and ACJM, and anywhere in Delhi, for defending the State in criminal matters and cases.
- Teaching law in the Police Training College or in any other institution or organisation.
- Advising the police in criminal cases, and maintaining record and statistical information of criminal cases pending in the Magistrate courts.
- Performing duty, in special cases, in any Department of the Government of NCT of Delhi with the approval of the Competent Authority.
Terms and Conditions of the Engagement
- Tenure: The contract is for six months, or till further orders, whichever is earlier, and it stands terminated automatically on completion of the contract period.
- Termination: The engagement may be terminated at any time by either side, without assigning reasons, on one month's notice. The Government has reserved the right to terminate the services forthwith on payment of a sum equivalent to one month's consolidated remuneration.
- No claim to regular service: No right or claim to regular appointment as Assistant Public Prosecutor is created, and the contractual service is not to be counted if the candidate is later selected on a regular basis through the UPSC.
- Whole-time engagement: The appointment is whole-time. No other appointment, paid or otherwise, may be accepted, and private practice of any kind is prohibited during the contract period.
- Conduct: The selected candidates are liable to disciplinary provisions of the CCS (Conduct) Rules, 1964, for professional misconduct, and the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act apply, a contractual prosecutor being a public servant during the term.
- Leave: Eight days of leave in a period of six months, on valid medical or other grounds. No other leave, and no earned leave, is admissible.
- Working hours: The same as those observed by regular Assistant Public Prosecutors.
- Verification: Educational certificates, character and antecedents are to be verified and a medical examination is to be conducted. Candidature is liable to be cancelled if anything adverse is found.
