The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) — an autonomous institute of national importance under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation — has invited applications for the engagement of one Part-Time Consultant (Legal) at its Bengaluru Centre on a contractual basis. Eligible advocates can apply by email on or before 25 August 2026.

Eligibility (as on 1 July 2026)
Essential Qualifications
- A degree of LL.B. or equivalent from a recognised university and/or institute, recognised by the Bar Council of India.
- Qualified to be registered as an advocate in any State Bar Council / Bar Council of India in terms of the Advocates Act, 1961.
- At least ten years’ experience of practising in a Court of Law, or being an expert in legal matters with five years’ experience of working for Government Departments including handling of Court cases.
Desirable
Knowledge of Government rules, RTI, Patent and IPR-related matters, and service matters.
Age Limit
The maximum age limit is 62 years as on 1 July 2026.
Key Duties
The Consultant (Legal) will work under the supervision of the In-Charge, Administration, and will, among other things, tender legal opinions; prepare para-wise comments on OAs, Writ Petitions, SLPs and PILs filed against the Institute; advise on RTI and service matters; vet contracts, NITs, MoUs and agreements; represent the Institute in arbitral proceedings; attend court hearings where the Institute or Ministry is a party; and monitor and maintain records of pending court cases.

Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview and must appear with the duly filled application form and all original testimonials (plus one self-attested photocopy set). Applicants must also submit an affidavit of No Conflict of Interest.
