Gliders India Limited, the Kanpur defence PSU that makes the armed forces’ parachutes, is hiring one Manager – Legal on fixed-term employment under Vacancy Notification No. 05/2026. The pay is ₹5,40,000 a year, or ₹45,000 a month. You need a law degree and three years’ post-qualification experience, and you must be 35 or under on 20 October.
It is a small post with a narrow window. Unlike the AAI and FSSAI legal posts advertised in the same fortnight, though, it is employment, not a consultancy, and that changes more than the label.

Eligibility, as printed
Essential: “Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognized University/Institution approved by the Bar Council of India with minimum 03 years of post-qualification relevant experience.”
Desirable: “PSU/Government Organization / Corporate / Industrial Organization / Reputed Law Firm experience, preferably in contracts, arbitration, litigation, corporate and service matters.”
Age: “Not more than 35 years as on the closing date of application.”
- The window is narrow. Three years after qualifying and not yet past 35 means, in practice, lawyers who finished an LL.B. somewhere between their early twenties and 32. If you did a three-year LL.B. after a few years in another career, check the arithmetic before you pay the fee.
- “Relevant” experience is not defined. Read it against the desirable list and the duties below. Contracts, procurement disputes, arbitration and service matters are what the post wants, and a litigation practice in those areas plainly counts.
- Enrolment is not required. The degree must be from an institution the Bar Council recognises, but you need not be on the rolls.
- Category: the notification gives age relaxation and fee exemption by category, but no post is reserved.
What the job is
The duties, as printed:
• “Provide legal advice and opinions to GIL on contractual, commercial, administrative, service and other legal matters.”
• “Draft, vet and review contracts, agreements, MoUs, tenders, undertakings, notices, leases and other legal documents.”
• “Handle and monitor litigation before Courts, Tribunals, Arbitration forums and other judicial/quasi-judicial authorities.”
• “Examine legal implications of procurement, vendor disputes, claims, liquidated damages, performance security, termination and contractual deviations.”
• “Advise HR/Administration on service matters, disciplinary proceedings, labour laws and employment-related disputes.”
• “Monitor compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations and Government/DPE/MoD directions applicable to GIL.”
• “Assist in drafting/reviewing corporate policies, legal procedures and internal guidelines.”
• “Maintain a database and periodic status report of all court cases, arbitration matters, legal notices and contracts.”
• “Any other legal/corporate assignment entrusted by the competent authority.”
This is a one-person legal desk at a young PSU. Gliders India was carved out of the Ordnance Factory Board and began business on 1 October 2021. Its one production unit, the Ordnance Parachute Factory at Kanpur, dates from 1941.
Expect defence procurement and vendor disputes — liquidated damages, performance security, termination — alongside the service and disciplinary matters of a workforce of about a thousand inherited from the old factory. For a lawyer three to five years in, it is broad exposure to government contracting and service law, with nobody above you in the department to hand the hard files to.
The money
₹5,40,000 a year is ₹45,000 a month, all-in. Paragraph 5 adds: “No HRA shall be admissible.” If the contract is extended, a 3% annual increment applies:
| Contract year | Annual CTC | Monthly |
|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | ₹5,40,000 | ₹45,000 |
| Year 2 (if extended) | ₹5,56,200 | ₹46,350 |
| Year 3 (if extended) | ₹5,72,886 | ₹47,741 |
To put that against the regular PSU ladder: under the Department of Public Enterprises’ 2017 pay revision, an E-1 officer starts on a basic of ₹40,000 and an E-2 on ₹50,000. Both figures come before industrial DA, HRA and perks, which add a good deal more. The fixed-term “Manager” is paid less, all-in, than a regular E-2 officer’s basic alone.
That is not a lowball aimed at lawyers. ₹5.4 lakh is the figure Gliders India has used for every fixed-term Manager post it has advertised this year — Finance & Accounts, Supply Chain, Administration, and now Legal.
Employment, not consultancy — and why it matters
The AAI and FSSAI posts call their lawyers “independent consultants”, paid a fee. Gliders India calls this Fixed Term Employment, and paragraph 6 says other benefits, including leave, are admissible “as per applicable norms of new labor codes”. That cuts both ways.
What it gives you: gratuity after one year
The four Labour Codes came into force on 21 November 2025. Under them, a fixed-term employee’s gratuity is no longer tied to five years’ continuous service. Section 53 of the Code on Social Security, 2020 makes the end of a fixed-term contract an occasion for gratuity and dispenses with the five-year rule in that case. As the Codes are generally read, a fixed-term employee who completes a year qualifies.
That is what “excluding gratuity, if applicable” in the CTC column is acknowledging. Gratuity sits on top of the ₹5.4 lakh, not inside it. Leave is 1.5 days per month — 18 a year — “as per norms of New Labour Codes”. The notification is silent on provident fund and medical benefits; ask at interview.
What it costs you: your practice
The engagement is “on contractual basis and he / she would not be permitted to take any other assignment during the period of engagement with GIL”, and you “may be required to work on Holidays/weekends”.
Rule 49 of the Bar Council of India Rules forbids a practising advocate from being a full-time salaried employee. With the consultancies there is at least an argument about the label. Here there is none: this is salaried employment by a company. If you are enrolled and practising, you will have to intimate your State Bar Council and stop practising for the term.
Three years is short enough to return to practice afterwards. But know that is the trade.
The other terms
- Tenure: “initially for 01 years extendable for another 02 year (total max. 03 years) based on performance and functional requirement”. There is no route to a regular post: the post “is purely contractual, and does not entitle the appointee to any other service or pension benefits under GIL”.
- Quarterly review in year one. If performance is “found non-satisfactory, the contract may be terminated with serving of 30 days written notice”.
- Termination generally: 30 days’ written notice, either side. GIL may also terminate for unsatisfactory performance or missed deliveries, and for lack of honesty and integrity.
- Non-Disclosure Agreement: you will sign one, and must keep GIL’s data strictly confidential. At a defence PSU, take that seriously.
- No TA/DA for attending the interview.
Selection
The notification provides for “written & interview or interview only as per discretion of GIL”. Generally, academics, experience and any written test carry 50% and the interview 50%, with a minimum of 50% in each part. One sentence deserves attention: “However suitability recommendation from interview committee will preside over marking system.” In plain terms, the interview decides.
A mistake in the notification itself
The application form at the end of the notification is headed “Against Advertisement No. 05/2026”. Its opening line, though, reads “With reference to the Vacancy Notification No. 04/2026 published by Gliders India Limited”. The form was carried over from the September notification without the number being changed.
Advertisement 04/2026 closed on 20 September. Correct the line to 05/2026 before you sign, and make sure your e-mail subject says 05/2026. That subject line is what routes your application.

Applying, step by step
- Pay the fee first. Transfer ₹500 to the Gliders India account given in the notification, unless you are exempt. Take the account number and IFSC from the notification itself, not from a third-party page. Note the transaction number (UTR) and date.
- Fill in the application form at the end of the notification. Correct “04/2026” to “05/2026” in the opening line. Enter the UTR and date in item 13, and sign.
- Build one PDF containing: the form; a detailed CV (with age, qualifications, total experience, employment history and achievements); self-attested copies of your certificates and degree; and your experience letters. The letters must show three years after qualifying.
- E-mail it to career@glidersindia.in with the subject “Application for the post of Manager – Legal vide Adv No. 05/2026”.
- Send it well before 20 October 2026, and keep the sent e-mail as your proof.

Worth applying?
- Three to six years in, under 35, and interested in government contracts or service law: yes. It is a narrow field — one post, a tight age band — and the work is broad.
- Already in Kanpur or Lucknow: the pay goes further there than ₹45,000 would in a metro, and the absence of HRA hurts less.
- Building a practice: weigh the Rule 49 point first. Three years off the rolls, in exchange for ₹5.4 lakh a year plus gratuity, suits some careers and not others.
- Over 35 on 20 October (or over your relaxed limit): you are not eligible. Do not pay the fee.
