National Law University, Tripura has issued a Re-Advertisement of Faculty Positions dated 27 August 2026 for five regular posts — Professor of Law, Associate Professor of Law and Assistant Professor of Sociology. Pay runs to Academic Level 14. Candidates who already applied against the June 2026 advertisement do not need to apply again.

Read that table before you get excited. There is no Assistant Professor of Law post here.
Both law positions are senior — Professor and Associate Professor. The only Assistant Professor vacancy is in Sociology, and it is reserved SC. If you are a law graduate with an LL.M. and NET looking for an entry-level teaching post, this advertisement has nothing for you. It is aimed squarely at academics who already have eight to ten years behind them. Four of the five posts are Unreserved; only the Sociology post carries reservation.

A date discrepancy inside the document itself.
The reference line at the top of the re-advertisement describes the parent advertisement as "dated 15.06.2026". Two paragraphs further down, the same advertisement is twice described as "dated 16th June 2026". One of those is wrong, and this article does not attempt to resolve which. It matters only if you are quoting the reference in correspondence — in which case cite the File No. F.2(34)/NLUT/Reg/2026-27/748, which is given consistently, and ask the Registrar's office to confirm the date.
Eligibility
Professor of Law
(a) An eminent scholar of law with a Ph.D. in Law and/or a concerned, allied or relevant discipline, with published work of high quality, actively engaged in research, evidenced by a minimum of ten research publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals and a total research score of 120 under UGC Regulations 2018, Appendix II, Table 2.
(b) A minimum of ten years of teaching experience in a university or college as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor, and/or research experience in law at an equivalent level at a University or National Level Institution, with evidence of having successfully guided a doctoral candidate.
OR — an outstanding professional route: a Ph.D. in Law and/or a relevant, allied or applied discipline, from a reputed academic institution or industry, who has made a significant contribution to knowledge in the discipline supported by documentary evidence, provided he or she has ten years' professional experience.
Associate Professor of Law
1. (a) A good academic record with a Ph.D. in Law and/or the concerned, allied or relevant disciplines; (b) a Master's Degree in Law with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade.
2. A minimum of eight years of teaching and/or research experience in an academic or research position equivalent to Assistant Professor in a University, College or Accredited Research Institution or industry, with a minimum of seven publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals and a total research score of 75 under the same UGC methodology.
Assistant Professor of Sociology
(a) A Master's degree with 55% marks or an equivalent grade in a concerned, relevant or allied subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
(b) Must have cleared NET (UGC or CSIR) or a similar UGC-accredited test such as SLET/SET — or hold a Ph.D. awarded in accordance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016 and amendments, in which case the candidate is exempted from NET/SLET/SET.
The pre-2009 Ph.D. exemption comes with five conditions. All five must be met.
Candidates registered for the Ph.D. programme before 11 July 2009 are governed by the then-existing Ordinances of the awarding institution and are exempt from NET/SET/SLET — but only if: (a) the Ph.D. was awarded in regular mode only; (b) the thesis was evaluated by at least two external examiners; (c) an open viva voce was conducted; (d) the candidate has published two research papers from the Ph.D. work, at least one in a refereed journal; and (e) the candidate has presented at least two papers based on the Ph.D. work at conferences or seminars sponsored, funded or supported by the UGC, ICSSR, CSIR or a similar agency. Miss one limb and the exemption does not apply.
Three Things in the Fine Print That Change How You Should Apply
1. The research score gets you the interview. It does not get you the job.
This is stated flatly in the Note on page 4 and it is the single most useful line in the document: the Academic score under UGC Regulations 2018 "shall be considered for short-listing of the candidates for interview only, and the selections shall be based only on the performance in the interview."
Two consequences follow. First, a very high research score buys you a seat in the room and nothing more. Second, the University expressly reserves the right to conduct a written test and/or a demo lecture at the time of the interview. A candidate who has been out of the classroom and is relying on publications alone should prepare to teach.
The advertisement also warns, in terms, that "fulfilment of essential qualifications per se does not entitle a candidate to be called for interview", and that the University may cap the number of candidates called.
2. If you are in government service, "Through Proper Channel" is not advisory.
Applicants serving in Government, Semi-Government organisations, Public Sector Undertakings or Autonomous Bodies must route their applications through proper channel. The advertisement states that applications received without the recommendation of the employer will not be considered. Separately, every candidate currently employed must submit a No Objection Certificate along with the application.
With a seventeen-day window, this is the constraint most likely to sink an otherwise strong application. If you need an NOC or a forwarding through your institution, start that today, not in the second week of September.
3. Both law posts are open to deputation.
The entries for Professor of Law and Associate Professor of Law each carry the line: "Candidate may be allowed to join on deputation basis." For a serving faculty member at another university or a government institution, that materially changes the risk of applying — you may not have to resign to take the post. The Sociology entry carries no such line.

Note the shape of that list. Apart from Constitutional and Administrative Law at the Professor level, the University is recruiting almost entirely on the commercial and private law side — corporate, IP, competition, trade, banking, arbitration. There is no mention of criminal law, family law, labour law or jurisprudence. A candidate whose entire record sits in criminal law should read the word "desirable" carefully before investing the application fee.
How to Apply
- The process is entirely online. All documents, attested as instructed, must be scanned legibly and uploaded with the form.
- No hard copy is to be sent to the University. Shortlisted candidates bring originals to the interview.
- Applications must be in the prescribed online form. Any other format will be rejected, and an application with incomplete documentation or incorrect information is liable to be summarily rejected.
- Pay the application fee, then upload the receipt of payment in the online application form.
The online application form is a Google Form, at https://forms.gle/cLRrLftBWhhQZMsv7, with a QR code given as the alternative route. Candidates should reach it through the official NLU Tripura website rather than a link copied from a job aggregator — a Google Form URL is trivially easy to spoof, and this is exactly the kind of link that gets impersonated during a live recruitment window.

Look closely at that fee table — the concession is tied to domicile, not category alone. An SC or ST candidate from outside Tripura pays the full Rs 1,500, exactly the same as an Unreserved candidate. The reduced Rs 1,000 rate reaches SC and ST candidates of Tripura, and PWD candidates. This is an unusual structure and it is easy to misread as a straightforward category concession. Budget accordingly.

A BHIM UPI QR code is printed in the notification. Verify these against the PDF on the University website before transferring anything.
Terms Worth Knowing Before You Commit
- The University reserves the right to relax experience requirements for exceptional candidates, particularly those holding a similar position at a reputed educational or research institution with a good track record.
- It reserves the right to withdraw any advertised post at any time without reason, and to fill or not fill any position. Its decision is final.
- It reserves the right to modify, cancel or withdraw any communication even after appointment, where this resulted from an inadvertent mistake in the advertisement or the recruitment process detected at a later stage.
- A candidate shortlisted on wrong information may be disqualified; a person selected or appointed on wrong information may be terminated at any stage.
- Any attempt to lobby or canvass to influence the selection is a ground for disqualification.
- Applicants from reserved categories must submit attested copies of the relevant certificates, signed by the appropriate authority, with the form.
- The University will not be responsible for non-receipt of an online application or any delay in receiving it, on any account. Submit early.
Should You Apply?
NLU Tripura is a young institution — established by Tripura Act 3 of 2022, so it is entering only its fourth year. That cuts both ways. A Professor joining now at Academic Level 14 arrives early enough to shape curriculum, centres and research direction at a national law university from close to the ground up, which is a rare thing to be offered. Against that, Agartala is a long way from the litigation and academic centres most candidates will be moving from, and an institution this new is still building its research infrastructure.
The deputation option is what makes the calculation manageable for serving academics: it is possible to test the move without severing an existing post. For anyone in that position, this is the most interesting feature of the advertisement.
And if you applied in June — do nothing. The re-advertisement says in terms that candidates who already applied against the parent advertisement need not apply again. Applying twice will not strengthen your case; it risks creating a duplicate record in a process that expressly reserves the right to reject applications carrying incorrect information.
